Rev. Adam Van Der Stoep, Pastor
Adam Van Der Stoep serves First Reformed Church by being their primary minister, teacher, and vision caster. He works closely with the staff, Elders and Deacons, and various leaders of the church to help align the resources of FRC to it’s highest priorities. In his free time Pastor Adam loves to read, ride his bike, go for a run, or do anything outdoors that involves hunting or fishing. Ross Van Kley, Director of Youth & Christian Education
Ross started here at First Reformed in May of 2020. In addition to helping lead the Education Team, Ross leads and organizes the Jr. High and Senior High ministries. Ross originally grew up in New Lenox, IL and moved to Sheldon his Junior year of High-School. After graduating from Sheldon he attended Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, majoring in Biblical/Theological Studies and Missional Ministries and is currently pursuing his MDIV through Fuller Theological Seminary. Ross has been married to his wife Olivia since June of 2019 and likes to spend his free time watching baseball, reading, making bad jokes, and playing his instruments. Gayle Van Leeuwen, Secretary
As Church Secretary, Gayle handles many administrative responsibilities at the church. She assembles the monthly newsletter Highlights, puts together the weekly bulletin and delivers mail to members’ mailboxes, along with various other duties. Gayle began working as secretary in 2008. Bruce Ewoldt, Custodian
Jeanne Visser, Mission and Outreach Coordinator
As Missions and Outreach Coordinator my job is to equip faithful disciples to reach out in love by assisting, preparing and encouraging congregational members of all ages for active service to others, fulfilling the Great Commission. Some of my responsibilities include coordinating service projects, donations, mission trips fundraisers and communication with missionaries. My husband, Jay, and I live in Hull. We have three sons and grandchildren. We enjoy golfing, Iowa State events, reading and traveling.
Jim and Barb Bynes, Ministry of Visitation
Serving as Ministry of Visitation, Jim visits the shut-ins of the church. This involves visiting those who are residents of nursing homes and assisted living centers. He also calls on those who are still living in their homes. Jim grew up in Orange City and married Barb Van Peursem in June, 1974. In November 1977, Jim and Barb bought the grocery store in Hull, Handy Grocery, which is Dan’s Food Center today. After owing the store for 12 years, Jim went to work for Hy-Vee in Sioux Center and later at Van’s in Rock Valley. In 1993, Jim began working for Jesco, later called Echo, as a sales rep for 23 years. Jim along with his wife, Barb, serve First Reformed Church as Ministry of Visitation.
Glenda Bonestroo, Church Treasurer
Glenda lives in Hull with her husband, Arlan. Glenda became the church treasurer after retiring from the Boyden-Hull school system after 31 years of teaching high school math. As treasurer, her responsibilities include completing payroll, tracking accounts, preparing financial reports, and issuing/distributing checks.
